Construction Disputes Associate, UK Law Firm

Associate – Construction Disputes (ADR & Arbitration)

Location: Singapore

Experience Level: 2–5 Years PQE

Practice Group: Construction & Infrastructure / International Arbitration

The Opportunity

A highly regarded mid-sized UK law firm is seeking a driven Singapore-qualified Associate with 2 to 5 years of post-qualification experience to join its dynamic Construction Disputes team in Singapore.

This is a non-contentious court practice with 100% focus on international arbitration and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) across the infrastructure and energy sectors—there is no court litigation involved. Candidates with a broader commercial disputes or arbitration background who are eager to specialize in construction arbitration and ADR are strongly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Arbitration & ADR Execution: Drafting pleadings, memorials, written submissions, witness statements, and hearing bundles for international arbitrations (e.g., SIAC, ICC) and alternative dispute resolution processes.

  • Adjudication & Mediation: Managing statutory adjudications (SOPA), private mediations, and expert determination proceedings for major regional project disputes.

  • Technical Evidence: Collaborating closely with quantum, delay, and engineering experts to build technical evidence, expert reports, and witness testimonies.

  • Claims Analysis: Conducting in-depth factual and legal analysis on complex project claims, including delay and disruption, variations, defects liability, and payment disputes.

  • Pre-Dispute Advisory: Providing commercial risk management and project advisory services to contractors, developers, and owners to resolve live project issues prior to formal proceedings.

The Candidate

  • Qualified Lawyer: Singapore qualification is required, with 2–5 years of post-qualification experience.

  • Disputes Foundation: Solid foundation in commercial arbitration, general disputes, or litigation from a reputable local or international practice, with a clear desire to focus exclusively on ADR and arbitration.

  • Sector Focus: Genuine enthusiasm to specialize in construction arbitration and project ADR; prior construction experience is advantageous but not mandatory.

  • Analytical Sharpness: Superior written advocacy, research capabilities, and the aptitude to digest complex technical, engineering, and quantum evidence.

  • Team Player: Pragmatic, proactive self-starter who excels in a lean, highly collaborative team environment.

Why Apply?

  • Pure Arbitration Focus: Work exclusively on high-value international arbitrations and ADR without court litigation duties.

  • Specialist Transition: Receive dedicated partner mentorship to transition your general disputes background into a high-demand specialist sector.

  • Mid-Sized Culture: Enjoy direct partner access, high visibility, and early responsibility within a collegiate environment without mega-firm bureaucracy.

  • Competitive Package: Attractive UK firm compensation package paired with realistic target hours and strong work-life balance.
